Streator Township High School is committed to partnering with parents and our community to help all students develop to their complete potential.
Inclement Weather Reminder
After an unusually mild stretch, the arrival of snow today makes it is a good time to remind you of our procedures for determining if classes will be held.
When the weather is bad, we follow a set of guidelines for deciding if school will be in session. The school district must make one decision that is the best for all students. This decision may not fit with your individual circumstances; therefore, we encourage you to make the decision that is best for your teen.
The process for deciding when schools are open or closed due to bad weather: Our administrators review the weather conditions and determine if all buildings are accessible for students and the staff. We also consult with bus companies to see if buses will be able to travel safely to and from school. This is the primary factor in making our decision. Superintendent Kevin Myers participates in a conference call with Streator and Grand Ridge Elementary feeder district superintendents and surrounding high school superintendents.
Typically, we decide whether to close schools by 5:30 a.m. and then communicate this decision. When schools will be closed, we post the notice on the school website. We also make an automated call to all families, faculty and staff and notify LaSalle County-area media.
